I think it would be a good one for those of you who like going for gi takedowns from the collar pull (Mike S.). It's also good because if you miss the takedown you still have your open guard with grips.

Ginastica Natural Seminar- 11/15/08

Also on Nov.15 Alliance NY will be hosting a Ginastica Natural seminar with Alvaro Romano. Ginastica Natural is a type of physical conditioning that combines yoga, jiu jitsu ground movements, strength building exercises and breath work to create a method that enhances mind and body control. Alvaro has been the conditioning coach to some of the sports biggest stars including Fabio Gurgel and Saulo and Xande Ribeiro. The seminar will be $65 and will include the newest Ginastica Natural DVD. Space is limited so reserve your spot with Fabio as soon as possible.

Upcoming Tournament 11/15/08

Saturday, Nov.15 will be the North Carolina state championships in Charlotte, NC. There will be gi and no-gi divisions as well as a pro no-gi lightweight division. Alliance NY member Goldi is set to release his War album in the upcoming weeks. I'm sure all of you whether you know it or not have heard Goldi's music being played during class, he has worked very hard on this upcoming CD and it has payed off. The first to singles ('Lazy Fat Stupid American' feat. Rush Limbaugh and 'War We Bring') are now available on iTunes.

Babs to guest star in Law and Order SVU

Alliance NY instructor Babs Olusanmokun will be guest starring in Law and Order SVU tommorow (tuesday, Oct.28) at 10pm. As many of you already know Babs is a very talented actor who has appeared on Law and Order before, as well as in many other tv shows and movies as well as various theatre productions.

From Lucas' 2007 all-star grappling match in DEEP. Lucas defeated then DEEP welterweight champion Hidehiko Hasegawa. At one point when Hasegawa was stalling from turtle guard lucas jumped on his back and stood up as if surfing. Upcoming Tournament 11/22/08

On Nov.22 there will be a small tournament in Williamstown, NJ. A few of the guys from the school are already planning on attending. This would be an ideal tourament for those of you who haven't competed yet and would like to do a small tournament to get started and for those of you who just want to be competeing more. Adonis from Grapplers Quest

10/18/08- Grappler's Quest

Last week the team went down to Wayne, NJ for Grappler's Quest. Great efforts were put forth from Kevin Sheridan, Sam Saffman, Zata Toscano and Vin Espisito. The real stars of the day though were Mike Schweiger and Adonis Vasquez. Mike was awesome in the blue belt gi welterweight, tearing through the division , subbing two and winning the final 12-2. Adonis (still only 16 years old!) ended up winning four divisions (teen's advanced gi/no gi and adult white belt gi lightweight and adult novice no gi lightweight), winning an incredible 9 matches!
